Don’t miss any of the magic as the Emirates FA Cup first round gets going live on the BBC and BT Sport

Get ready for shocks, surprises and brand new heroes, as club football’s most historic tournament begins

From Friday 8 November, BBC + BT Sport

The Emirates FA Cup first round. Don’t the majority of those words put a smile on your face and a spring in your step? The football world’s oldest cup competition is back and ready to roll this weekend, with a host of live games available to watch on the BBC and BT Sport.

While distinguished names and former winners from Leagues One and Two enter automatically at this point in the tournament, a number of non-league clubs have slogged their way through the qualifying rounds to get to this stage.

And why did they strain every sinew to get there? Because sides from, for example, the Isthmian League North Division are potentially just 180 minutes away from drawing one of the Premier League’s big boys in the third round. Maldon & Tiptree versus defending champions Manchester City? The magic of the Cup says it could yet happen.

Find out more about the first round of the competition by checking out these big numbers.

One team definitely in the hat for the second round is eighth-tier Chichester City, who were given a bye after Bury were removed from the competition due to the ongoing financial difficulties that saw them expelled from the Football League. But who will join them when the draw is made? Find out by tuning into this weekend’s live matches, including Dulwich Hamlet’s clash with Carlisle United and Harrogate Town taking on two-time champions Portsmouth.
