City’s quest for back-to-back titles continues against a Newcastle side they made light work of last season
Manchester City v Newcastle United, Saturday 1 September, 5pm, BT Sport 1/HD (CH 531/527)
Cancel any plans you’ve made for this Saturday evening, because Manchester City are ready to serve up another footballing masterclass when they take on Newcastle United live and exclusive on BT Sport.
Pep Guardiola’s champions may have done the double over the Magpies en route to a record points tally last season, but Newcastle did the double over almost everyone!
The visitors will want to keep a particularly keen eye on a certain Sergio Agüero when the action kicks off. The last time the two sides met in January, City’s master marksman netted a hat-trick in a 3-1 win for the hosts at the Etihad. Only Wayne Rooney has scored more times against Newcastle since the Premier League was formed in 1992.
But while City are eyeing up more riches to add to their increasingly heaving trophy cabinet, it’s a different story for Newcastle. A quiet summer transfer window has led to fans questioning owner Mike Ashley’s intentions once again.
It’s likely to be another unpredictable season for the Magpies (do they know any other way of doing things?) but leaving the Etihad with a point or three would have them looking up the table heading into autumn. Too big an ask? Maybe, but this is a competition that continues to surprise.
Could we have a shock on our hands? Or are Manchester City set to show the pretenders how it’s done? Find out by tuning into the action this Saturday, live and exclusive on BT Sport.
