Don’t miss the remainder of England’s gripping Test series in India, plus Premier League, Champions League, UFC and a new season of MotoGP racing – all coming up this month on TNT Sports
By Chris Miller, Feature Writer
Is it worth getting up at 4am for an England Test match in India? On this tour, the answer must be a resounding YES – we’ve already seen some of the best ever contests between these two sides. England’s positive batting approach (including an incredible 196 from Ollie Pope in Hyderabad) and the success of their young spinners have countered India’s home advantage, and the series is beautifully poised at 1-1. Be sure to tune in for the next three Tests on TNT Sports.
And it’s not just England – TNT Sports is showing loads of cricket from around the world, including Australia men’s tour of New Zealand and a women’s Test between Australia and South Africa. It’s a great time of year for motorsports fans too, as the World Rally Championship and Formula E seasons get into full swing, and the new season of MotoGP racing begins in Qatar.
There’s football galore too at this crucial stage of the season, with the UEFA competitions returning including the Champions League, and the title race getting serious in the Premier League. There’s the usual action from Italy, France and Australia too, as well as the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals.
All that plus top-level rugby union, UFC championship bouts, NBA basketball, international hockey and more. It’s going to be another thrilling month jam-packed with top-notch live action on TNT Sports.

Arsenal led from the front last season but this year, despite adding the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz to the squad, their form hasn’t been quite as impressive – especially over a Christmas period that saw them pick up just one point from nine. A win over leaders Liverpool at the start of February, however, followed by a 6-0 thrashing of West Ham boosted their confidence and they have some crucial home games coming up as they attempt to mount another title challenge.
The TNT Sports cameras will be at the Emirates for their clashes with Newcastle and Chelsea – as well as at Brentford on 17 February, where Liverpool will need a result if they’re to stay ahead of the resurgent Gunners.

The battle for the biggest trophy of them all returns in February, and the first matchday of the round of 16 sees Man City visit Copenhagen. They have five Danish Superliga titles in the past eight seasons… but we’re not sure that’s enough to keep the holders at bay, especially with midfield maestro Kevin de Bruyne back.
In the same week, Real Madrid travel to Leipzig for their first-leg match, and Bayern are in Rome to face Lazio. Next week sees Arsenal return to Champions League action with a trip to Porto, while Napoli and Barcelona fans can get together to reminisce about Diego Maradona.

At this stage, the clubs who finished second in the Europa League groups take on the third-placed Champions League teams for a place in the Europa League last 16. All clear? This season the play-offs include such Euro giants as AC Milan and a now José Mourinho-less Roma, although arguably the most impressive achievement in reaching this stage belongs to Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Ukrainian team are playing their “home” games in Hamburg, 1,500 miles away from their stadium, but won three group games (including a victory over Barcelona) to progress. Group winners Liverpool, Brighton and West Ham await in the next round, as do Bundesliga front-runners Bayer Leverkusen. The draw for the round of 16 will be made on 23 February.

Aston Villa are safely through to the round of 16 after winning their group, alongside the likes of Fiorentina, Fenerbahçe and Lille. They’ll have to wait and see who they meet while the Conference League group runners-up play off against the third-placed Europa League teams. Football: UEFA Women’s Champions League
There’s no doubt who the real powers are in European women’s football: Lyon have won six of the past eight Champions League titles, and Barcelona have won two of the last three. Chelsea have been attempting to disrupt this duopoly with limited success, demonstrated most starkly in the 2021 final when they were 4-0 down to Barcelona before half-time. This season, with manager Emma Hayes poised to leave for the USA national team job, the Blues will be extra determined. First they’ll have to get past Dutch champions Ajax. If they can, they’ll expect to meet Barcelona in the semis.

Aldershot Town signed him in the summer and after a blistering first half to the season, the 19-year-old signed for Championship club Bristol City in the January window. It’s been a meteoric rise for the young forward, who’s been loaned back to the Shots for the rest of this campaign so he can focus on helping the Hampshire club reach the play-offs.

We’re not saying Inter’s win over Juventus in early February meant the race for the scudetto was over, but the nerazzurri are in a seriously strong position with 15 games to go. One team that could cause them problems are Atalanta, whose impressive post-Christmas run of results – including a win over AC Milan at San Siro – has pushed them into Champions League qualifying contention.
Former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has been among the goals for them, with Belgian creator Charles de Ketelaere in eye-catching form. You can see their visit to Inter, a rare midweek game at the end of February, on TNT Sports and find out if Gian Piero Gasparini’s side can reel the leaders in.

According to stats site FBref.com, PSG’s annual wage bill is €293 million, or around four times that of the second highest-paying Ligue 1 club, Marseille (€74 million). By contrast Brest, the Breton club spending their eighth ever season in the French top flight, have a wage bill of just under €14 million – but that hasn’t stopped them climbing into the top three, which they did in early February thanks to a nine-match unbeaten run, including draws against the top two, PSG and Nice.
Head coach and former Sunderland midfielder Eric Roy took over in January 2023 with very little experience, but he’s taken them to unprecedented heights. The internet went a bit funny when midfielder Lilian Brassier was sent off in a recent Cup game (“Removal of Brassier leaves Brest exposed!” etc), but they’re clearly much more than just every sniggering adolescent’s favourite club and could genuinely be in the Champions League next year. You can see them at home to Marseille and away at Strasbourg this month on TNT Sports.

Early leaders Melbourne Victory slipped from the top after a series of draws, allowing Wellington Phoenix and Central Coast Mariners back into the race for first place – but even the top teams are struggling to find consistency. Perhaps Macarthur, managed by sometime Derby forward Mile Sterjovski and powered by the goals of Mexican striker Ulises Dávila, could emerge from the pack behind them and mount a real challenge.

Melbourne City’s lead at the top has been cut after a poor run of three defeats in four games allowed Western United and Sydney FC to close the gap. Both those clubs face Canberra on TNT Sports this month, and with the club from the capital rock bottom of the table, they’ll be confident of putting more pressure on the Sky Blues. Curiously, Canberra are among the league’s top scorers, with veteran forward Michelle Heyman the first player to reach double figures this season. Rugby Union: Premiership Cup
The Premiership is taking a break as internationals dominate this part of the rugby season – but there’s time to squeeze in the cup semi-finals. The story here is the success of Championship club Ealing Trailfinders, who beat Premiership sides Northampton and Bristol on their way to the final four. Now Leicester Tigers stand between them and a place in March’s final. Ealing’s Steve Shingler is the top points scorer in this year’s competition, and he’ll need to maintain his deadly kicking accuracy if they’re to get through to face Gloucester or Exeter.

After some tough games against top teams, Loughborough hit their stride with a hard-fought win over Harlequins in January and followed it up by putting 45 points on the board when beating Ealing, with England internationals Sadia Kabeya, Catherine O’Donnell and Helena Rowland all going over. They’re a little off the top-four pace, but if they can get a win in Bristol, they’ll be heading in the right direction. The Bears, with the highly experienced likes of Amber Reed and Lark Atkins-Davis in their squad, will be difficult opponents.

England’s men’s Test series in India has been gripping so far and shows all the signs of being an all-time classic, after England came back to score a memorable win in the first match and threatened the same in the second before the home team prevailed. As is standard these days, 16 of the 22 riders this season come from Spain and Italy, reflecting the popularity of MotoGP in those countries. Italy have come out on top in the past two riders’ championships, in the form of Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia, but Spain’s Marc Márquez – who’s moved to the Gresini Racing team for 2024 – and Prima Panac Racings’ Jorge Martín are the bookies’ favourites ahead of a new season of high-speed thrills and, indeed, spills. However, at the first race of 2024 in Monaco, it was the Belgian team of Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe claimed maximum points under the new scoring system, with the UK pair back in third with some catching up to do. Race 2 starts in Umeå, Sweden, on 15 February; next up, Kenya.

Since the Seattle SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder in 2008, they haven’t won an NBA championship, coming closest in 2012 when they lost in the finals to Miami Heat. Basketball: EuroCup
London Lions beat Beşiktaş home and away in the group stage of this season’s EuroCup and now they face Turkey’s other representatives in the round of 16. While the Lions finished third in Group A with 12 wins from 18 games, Türk Telekom lost more games than they won and scraped through in sixth – so the Londoners will be confident of seeing them off.

Hockey: Women’s FIH Pro League
Because of the stop-start way the FIH Pro League is played, with bursts of games not necessarily involving every team every few months, it can be hard to keep track of who’s performing well. However, the Netherlands’ 100% record this season suggests they’re very much the team to beat. The defending champs may have played more matches than anyone else at this stage, but they’ve set the bar high and the likes of China, Australia and Argentina have got their work cut out to catch them. GB aren’t playing till June but there’s plenty of exciting action to enjoy this month.

Hockey: Men’s FIH Pro League
Great Britain’s men are sitting out this batch of fixtures as well and, having finished runners-up last year, they’ll be watching on with interest to see which teams are best equipped to stop them going one better in 2023-24. Netherlands are the defending champions but look vulnerable, having required penalties to beat Argentina and then lost to India in a shoot-out. They did thrash promoted Ireland 5-1, though, and the “Green Machine” will be determined to make a better fist of the rest of their season.
