The UEFA Nations League is about to hot up

As the first phase of the competition reaches its climax on Sky Sports, we pick out six games you won’t want to miss

It’s all about qualification, relegation and (potential) celebration when the action resumes live on Sky Sports

Continues Thursday 15 November, Sky Sports

We’ve reached a crucial stage in the inaugural UEFA Nations League, as the first phase of the tournament prepares to deliver a thrilling conclusion live and exclusive on Sky Sports.

For some of the continent’s top teams, spaces in next year’s coveted Final Four are still very much up for grabs heading into these fixtures. For other sides, the indignity of relegation looms large. Don’t have a clue what we’re talking about? Then get up to speed on the competition with our handy guide.

With a whopping 46 UEFA Nations League games exclusively live on Sky Sports this week, it’s a proper feast of international action. However, if you need help choosing which matches to watch, here are six fixtures that you should know about.

League A, Group 4: Croatia v Spain

Thursday 15 November, 7.40pm, Sky Sports Premier League/HD (CH 512/502)

Spain head into this encounter with a two-point lead at the top of their group, and will claim the top spot with a win. Meanwhile, if Croatia topple Luis Enrique’s side, they have a chance of ending the group campaign as winners. This one is pivotal.

League A, Group 1: Netherlands v France

Friday 16 November, 7.40pm, Sky Sports Football/HD (CH 513/503)

France have a healthy four-point advantage in their group, thanks to two wins and a draw from their opening three games. That said, a win for the Netherlands would put Ronald Koeman’s team back in contention to finish first.

League B, Group 4: Wales v Denmark

Friday 16 November, 7pm, Sky Sports Main Event/HD (CH 511/501)

This crucial clash sees group leaders Wales host the dangerous Danes. Ryan Giggs’ team would secure top spot with a victory, but Denmark, who have a game in hand, would overtake their opponents by triumphing in Cardiff. It’s wide open.

League A, Group 3: Italy v Portugal

Saturday 17 November, 7.40pm, Sky Sports Football/HD (CH 513/503)

Two of the world’s most well-groomed international teams go head to head at the San Siro in a titantic tussle. Portugal will win the group with a game in hand if they clinch the three points in Milan. For the Italians, a victory would put them at the top of the pile.

League A, Group 4: England v Croatia

Sunday 18 November, 1pm, Sky Sports Football/HD (CH 513/503)

Following October’s drab 0-0 draw in a spectator-free stadium, we’re hoping for a little more excitement at Wembley. England could be in with a chance of finishing in first place when this showdown kicks off, but only if leaders Spain stumble against Croatia.

League C, Group 1: Scotland v Israel

Tuesday 20 November, 7pm, Sky Sports Main Event/HD (CH 511/501)

October’s 2-1 defeat in Haifa was a low point for the Scots and manager Alex McLeish, but they head into the return fixture knowing that a win would throw them back into the competition with a chance of finishing top of their group. The margins are fine though, because Israel will cement their place as group winners if they triumph at Hampden.
