The world is your playground – at least, that was true for those who visited our Connected Playground. Watch the epic video to see how we created the ultimate playtime…

The future of play is bright (and interactive!) according to visitors at our Connected Playground.

The first-of-its-kind playground was inspired by recent research that shows seven in ten parents believe children should have more exposure to playgrounds modernised with technology. So, we took on the challenge to deliver a unique audiovisual playtime experience like no other.

This month, the Connected Playground opened to the public in London, combining hyper-fast connectivity with stimulating lights, sound and physical play – all powered by our fixed and mobile networks.

The immersive experience saw swings, slides and even a climbing frame fitted with sensors, pressure pads and infrared beams that lit up against the night sky. Children’s movements triggered special sounds and sights, taking sensory play to a whole new level.

Child psychologist and expert on Channel 4’s The Secret Life Of 4 And 5 Year Olds Dr Sam Wass said, “Playing outside has always been a way in which children develop their understanding of the world. It’s vital that we create new environments to embrace technology and help provide children with the tools to think and play creatively.”

And if the equipment itself wasn’t cool enough, participants could even take home the perfectly unique soundtrack they created as an unforgettable memento of their visit.

We also teamed up with Dallington Primary School to offer some eager pupils the opportunity to take part in the musical playtime challenge alongside members of the public. It was a hit with kids and grown-ups alike!

Parent Gareth Malone said, “I think it’s vital that there are more activities and outdoor play that reflects and suits modern children’s desired style of play. I’m intrigued to see what else can be done with future technologies and connectivity.”

This exciting event showed what can be achieved today and gives us a glimpse of the possibilities that lie ahead. If you missed out on the fun this time around then be sure to check out the below video to see exactly what we got up to.
