10 things you didn’t know about Pamela Anderson

Thought you knew the real Pamela Anderson? Think again. We take a deep dive into the life of this Hollywood icon

By Charlotte Briggs, Staff Writer

She’s the woman on everyone’s lips. Thirty years after Pamela Anderson first made a splash in that red swimsuit, the Baywatch beauty is back in the spotlight. But this time around, it’s on her terms.

At the height of her fame Anderson found herself at the centre of several tabloid attacks and scandals, like many other women of her time. Thankfully, times have changed and now Anderson is taking her star power back on the world stage.

Beyond the glitz and glamour of her Hollywood career is a talented home renovator, a human rights, animal rights and environmental activist and a New York Times best-selling author. Phew!

With the release of her new memoir Love, Pamela, her Netflix documentary Pamela, A Love Story (watch now on Apps & Games > Netflix) and the new property series Pamela Anderson’s Family Home Renovation, it’s about time we all celebrated the real woman behind the celebrity. After all, what’s not to love?

Here’s a sneak peek at the new show, which was known as Pamela’s Garden Of Eden when it was shown in North America…

Read on to discover our top ten facts you might not know about the superstar, whose brand new series Pamela Anderson’s Family Home Renovation starts on More4 HD (CH 147) at 10pm on Wednesday 8 February.

1. She’s a born-and-bred Canadian

Although Anderson has often been marketed as an all-American “it girl”, she actually grew up by the idyllic shores of Ladysmith in British Columbia, Canada, before packing her bags and heading south in search of stardom. Recently, she gave up her Hollywood lifestyle to return to her hometown and the house she grew up in – more of which later…

2. She’s a secret superhero!

Well, maybe not so secret any more. In 2003 Anderson collaborated with the legendary comic book creator and Marvel founder Stan Lee to create an adult animated series called Stripperella. The title character voiced by Anderson is, you guessed it, a stripper by day and a superhero by night. Fighting crime never seemed so glamorous!

3. She’s starred on Broadway

She’s best known for her screen roles but Anderson has also played aspiring-actress-turned-murderess Roxie Hart in Chicago on stage in New York. Her 2022 Broadway debut was a success and she joined a long list of famous names who have portrayed Roxie including Liza Minelli, Destiny Child’s Michelle Williams, singer Ashlee Simpson and Renée Zellweger in its film adaptation.

5. She’s a humanitarian

Having worked with 20 charities and organisations (including heading her own non-profit, the Pamela Anderson Foundation), Anderson has a passion for activism that knows no limits. One of her most famous campaigns was as the face of MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam V lipstick, which saw all profits go to the MAC AIDS foundation.

6. She’s a woman of firsts

In 2006 Anderson became the first non-singer and model to host the JUNO Awards, an annual ceremony that celebrates the best of Canadian musical talent. But the record setting doesn’t end there: she’s also the title holder of the most Playboy covers in history, with 13 under her belt.

7. She’s inspired an award-winning building

The Sam Newman House in the Australian city of St Kilda features an incredible glass-tiled façade of Anderson’s face on its front exterior. Built in 2001, the luxury home won the Best New Residential Building in the RAIA Victorian Architecture Awards in 2003, becoming a major local landmark and hotspot for fans around the world.

7. She’s published seven books

While Anderson’s new memoir has caused a real stir, she’s already a successful author: she’s released two other autobiographies, Pandemonium and Raw, and two novels – Star and its sequel Star Struck, telling a classic rags-to-riches tale of a self-inspired protagonist. Her other titles include children’s storybook My New School and a self-help relationship book.

8. She’s a producer and director

She has dozens of acting credits to her name from the sitcom Stacked to last year’s thriller Alone At Night, but she’s also demonstrated her talent behind the camera and holds a co-director title for her reality telly series Pam: Girl On The Loose. Her nine producer credits include exposé documentary The Game Changers, comedy flick Blonde And Blonder and feel-good sitcom Stacked.

9. She’s an animal rights activist

Anderson has long supported animal welfare, having turned vegetarian as a teenager and later vegan. In 1999 she won the first Linda McCartney Memorial award after she posed for PETA’s first-ever Times Square billboard ad “Give Fur the Cold Shoulder". Since then, she’s starred in multiple campaigns as a PETA spokesperson and honorary director including the organisation’s 2022 Valentine’s Day campaign.

10. She’s a talented home renovator

Anderson takes the starring role in her brand new property series Pamela Anderson’s Family Home Renovation. Having bought her family home from her grandmother 30 years ago, the screen star is taking on her biggest challenge yet by restoring the once dazzling six-acre property with a team of designers, architects and contractors. We can’t wait!
