The best sporting moments of 2021

Who will be BBC Sports Personality Of The Year 2021? The winner may well be found in our list of the most memorable sporting moments of the year…

By Chris Miller, Writer

We can all agree that 2021 was a heck of a weird year – and not least in sport. It began with empty venues, video-call press conferences and TV presenters and pundits yelling across studios at each other. It continued by staging not one but two major international events originally scheduled for 2020, after both the Olympics and the UEFA European Championships were delayed by a year (for some reason).

But it’s ending in the traditional way with the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year. This much-loved annual event is always a wonderful celebration of all that’s best in sport both in the UK and around the world – and despite all the weirdness, 2021 is no exception.

This year’s line-up of Sports Personality nominees is outstanding, indicating a real golden age for British sport, and whoever takes the trophy on Sunday will be a worthy winner. But while we’ve enjoyed watching them achieve their cherished goals, they weren’t all involved in our favourite sporting moments of the year…
