Everything you need to know about Bridgerton

Was the world asking for a tongue-in-cheek, risqué period drama? Maybe not. Did we absolutely love it? Of course we did!

By Virgin TV Edit

If you’ve not seen Bridgerton, it’s all the pomp and ludicrous ceremony of Regency-era England, with a pinch of mystery, and a saucy side of spice.

Want to discover more about the show, including where it was filmed? Find out all the answers to the big questions below...

What is Bridgerton about?

Who is Lady Whistledown? That’s the burning question that befalls the blue-blooded Bridgertons and their stuffy, equally high-born neighbours, the Featheringtons. The defiant writer of the Society Paper is held in such high regard that whatever she pens is practically gospel. And in a time where status and title are everything, it’s important to remain in good favour.

When the competing families aren’t poring over the words of Lady Whistledown, they’re vying for the attention of Queen Charlotte, in the hope that one of their daughters will be married into an even higher class.

Where is Bridgerton filmed?

Although Bridgerton is set in 1800s London, its shoot locations are scattered across England. London was of course one of them, with spots including Ranger’s House in Greenwich, which actually housed King George III’s elder sister, Princess Augusta, at one point. They also used Lancaster House (near Buckingham Palace, also used in The Crown) and Syon House (Kew) for a lot of the opulent interior shots.

Onto the Home Counties surrounding Greater London. Buckinghamshire’s RAF Halton provided the backdrop to the interior of the Bridgerton house, including the smoking room, hallway and staircase. In the south west, Bath’s famous No. 1 Royal Crescent was used as the exterior for the Featherington house, and Lady Danbury’s home was in fact the historic city’s Holburne Museum.

A bit further north, in Yorkshire, we see Daphne and Simon sink into their married life. The exterior shots of their new home – the Clyvedon Castle – were filmed at Castle Howard, which is situated a few miles north east of York.

Who is in the cast of Bridgerton?

If you’ve been scratching your head as to who voices Lady Whistledown, it’s only Julie Andrews! But of course, there are also loads of superb on-screen performances too, including: Phoebe Dynevor (Dickensian), Jonathan Bailey (W1A), Regé-Jean Page (Waterloo Road), Claudia Jessie (Line Of Duty), Adjoa Andoh (Casualty) and Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls) to name a few of the main cast.

How many seasons of Bridgerton have there been?

There’s been just one season of Bridgerton so far, but a second one is already in production and slated for a 2022 release. In fact, the period drama has already been given the green light for a third and fourth season, so there’s plenty more to come from London’s eccentric aristocracy.
