Film-makers Dereck and Beverly Joubert talk about their latest series on National Geographic WILD

Discover one of Africa’s most beautiful and unforgiving rivers in this unmissable three-part documentary series

Okavango: River Of Dreams, Sunday 1 September, 6pm, National Geographic WILD/HD (CH 264/265)

Think wildlife documentary-makers and the mind turns to David Attenborough and… well, that’s probably it. But veteran conservationists and film-makers Dereck and Beverly Joubert have made dozens of acclaimed documentaries for National Geographic, and their latest is an absolute stunner.

In the three-part series Okavango: River Of Dreams, this South African husband-and-wife team take you into the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, one of the most spectacular rivers on the planet. You’ll get up close with the animals who are fighting to survive in the region’s challenging ecosystem every single day, from majestic lions and boisterous hippos to elephants, hyenas, warthogs and more.

Episode 1 profiles Fekeetsa, a lioness who is left for dead by her pride after a buffalo hunt goes wrong. Will this big cat recover from her injuries or will the many predators lurking around the river strike while she is weakened? The series is an emotional roller coaster, that’s for sure – and that’s just the start of the journey.

Featuring incredible cinematography and expert insight from the Jouberts (they’ve been doing this for more than three decades), Okavango: River Of Dreams is a must-watch for fans of gripping nature documentaries. Here, the team behind the show explain why you don’t want to miss it…
