Minions: The Rise Of Gru

Available now in Sky Cinema on demand. Cert U

Steve Carell (Over The Hedge) is back as Gru in this fifth instalment of the Despicable Me franchise, with plenty of Minion action. It’s set in 1976, when an 11-year-old Gru is dreaming of one day becoming a supervillain. After an audition to join a villainous crew goes wrong, Gru is kidnapped, and his fate is left in the hands of his loyal Minions. Also lending their voices to this animation are Taraji P Henson (The Karate Kid), Michelle Yeoh (Kung Fu Panda 2) and Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins).

Barry

Season 4 begins on Monday 17 April on Sky Comedy HD (CH 112). Seasons 1-3 are available now in On Demand

Bill Hader (Trainwreck) stars as Barry Berkman, a former US Marine turned hitman whose passion for acting inspires him to leave his old life behind. Well, if only it were that simple. When sent to kill a target in Los Angeles in season 1, Barry joined a class of aspiring actors and became caught up in the city’s theatre scene – but try as he might, he can’t quite shake off his dark past. The last time we saw Berkman on screen it looked like it was the end for him, so we can’t wait to see what’s in store for season 4. Also starring are Stephen Root (Get Out), Sarah Goldberg (Rogue Agent), Anthony Carrigan (Gotham) and Henry Winkler (Arrested Development).

Miss Scarlet And The Duke

Season 3 begins on Tuesday 11 April on Alibi HD (CH 126). Seasons 1 + 2 are available in On Demand

No stranger to period dramas, Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders, Downton Abbey, Wolf Hall) stars alongside Stuart Martin (Army Of Thieves) in this American-British series set in the 19th century. The crime drama begins with Eliza Scarlet (Phillips) continuing her father’s detective agency after his death. Operating under her father’s name, Scarlet frequently calls on long-term friend and Scotland Yard detective William “The Duke” Wellington (Martin) for help with acquiring cases. Find out what mysteries and perils await the first female detective in Victorian London.

Alex Rider

From Thursday 20 April, 9pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 228/999)

You don’t want to miss this stylish TV adaptation of Anthony Horowitz’s bestselling spy thriller series. Otto Farrant (War & Peace) plays the titular character, a schoolboy who gets sucked into the world of MI6 as a teenage spy. Alex’s first mission? He must infiltrate a controversial corrective academy for the ultra-rich’s wayward children. Giving this series its edge with their own action-packed credentials are supporting cast of Vicky McClure (Line Of Duty), Brenock O’Connor (Dickensian) and Ronke Adekoluejo (Rain Dogs).

UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals

From Tuesday 11 April on BT Sport 1 HD (CH 527) + BT Sport 2 HD (CH 528)

After two knockout rounds, eight teams are left in this season’s Champions League, including big names like Real Madrid, Chelsea and Bayern Munich. There’s only one name on everyone’s lips though – Erling Haaland. The Champions League’s top scorer has been defying gravity throughout the season and shows no signs of coming back down to Earth. Man City fans are dreaming of a Champions League win, but but first they must overcome German champions Bayern Munich. Always a tricky prospect, the Bavarians also have two former City players in their squad, and João Cancelo and Leroy Sané will be determined to make life difficult for their old team-mates.

The Champions League quarter-final first legs are on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 April with the second legs on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 April. Drama is guaranteed so make sure you tune in.

Premier League

Continues in April and May on BT Sport 1 HD (CH 527) and Sky Sports Premier League/HD (CH 512/502)

The Premier League season has only a handful of games left – which means there’s an exciting month ahead for footie fans. Arsenal have been leading the charge at the top of the league, largely thanks to the leadership of manager Mikel Arteta as well as the performances of their star player Bukayo Saka. There are some tough fixtures ahead though, with games against West Ham, Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester City and Southampton. Will they be able to keep up enough momentum to lift the trophy?

Beast

Available from Saturday 15 April in Sky Cinema on demand. Cert 15

Idris Elba (Luther) takes the lead in this action film about a family vacation that goes horrifyingly wrong. Recently widowed Dr Nate Samuels (Elba) embarks on the trip of a lifetime to the African savannah with his daughters Meredith (Iyanna Halley, This Is Us) and and Norah (Leah Jeffries, Empire). However, their paradise quickly becomes a nightmare after a rogue lion begins hunting the locals leaving the Samuels in peril and battling to survive. Sharlto Copley (The A-Team) also stars.

Avatar: The Way Of Water

Available to buy now on the Virgin Media Store. Cert 12

An Oscar® winner for Best Visual Effects, James Cameron’s first sequel to the huge global hit Avatar is spellbinding. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington, Hacksaw Ridge) now lives in peace with his family on the extrasolar moon Pandora. When a familiar threat returns to finish what they started, Sully must join forces with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana, Guardians Of The Galaxy) and the Na’vi army for the greater good. Also reprising their roles are Stephen Lang (Don’t Breathe) and Sigourney Weaver (Alien) while new ensemble cast members include Kate Winslet (Titanic), Cliff Curtis (Doctor Sleep), Edie Falco (American Crime Story) and Jemaine Clement (Moana).

FBI

Season 5 available from Monday 17 April in On Demand. Seasons 1-4 available now

A team of agents work together to keep their city and country safe in this procedural drama series. FBI Special Agents Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym, Rookie Blue) and Omar “OA” Zidan (Zeeko Zaki, Six) use all their talents, intelligence and technical expertise to fight organised crime and terrorism. They can’t do it alone, though, and rely on special analyst Kristen Chazal (Ebonee Noel, The Kings Of Napa) as well as master motivator Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto, Clueless) to complete their elite investigative unit.
