Who’s taking on Rob and Romesh?

Who’s taking on Rob and Romesh?

In their new show, the comedians meet their favourite sports stars and celebs. But who are they?

What do the world’s fastest man, a Canadian country sensation and a supermodel best known for tiny pants all have in common?

Rob And Romesh Vs, Friday 25th January, 9pm, Sky One/HD (CH 110/109). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > Sky One

If you know the answer, then you know more about Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan than most! The two comedians have compiled a wishlist of their favourite famous faces and sports stars to meet, and get the chance to do it in one bucket-list-fulfilling new series. On that rather varied list are Usain Bolt, Shania Twain and David Gandy, among others!

The show was snapped up after the two unlikely lads went toe to toe with Olympic boxing legend Anthony Joshua before his clash against Wladimir Klitschko for Sky Sports. Unsurprisingly, the combination of up close and personal access to big names and Rob and Romesh trying their hand at what made the stars famous in the first place is an absolute winner.

In this first season, they partner up with Usain Bolt and lace up to race him, go onstage with country singing legend Shania Twain and are put through their paces by the biggest British male supermodel, Mr David Gandy himself.

But how much do you know about the collection of celebs that are facing off against the dynamic duo? Read on to find out more…

Usain Bolt

A man who needs no introduction, he is simply “The Fastest Man in the World”. An incredible athlete and personality, the Jamaican sprinter smashed his way into the public consciousness by breaking the world record for the 100m sprint at the Berlin 2009 World Championships. Since then he has raced his way across the record books, and despite retiring in 2017, he currently holds the world records for the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay.

This incredible career spans three Olympics, meaning you can also refer to him as the greatest sprinter of all time. But not content with ruling in one sport, Bolt is keen to try his hand (or feet?) at playing professional football, with a place in the Manchester United first team being his ultimate dream.

Most memorable moment of their career

It has to be that semi-final winning run in the 2016 Rio Olympics, which ended with amazing scenes of a smiling Bolt easing off the gas as he finished. It was a win that also put him through to another gold in the subsequent final.

Shania Twain

With more than 100 million records sold worldwide, Canada’s Shania Twain is the bestselling female artist in country music history and among the bestselling in any genre. Ever. She has achieved universal appeal with classics such as “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much”.

What the average UK music fan might not realise though is just how incredible her career has been. It spans three decades, and during that time she has racked up five Grammy Awards, Walk of Fame stars in both Hollywood and Canada, and is the only female artist in history to have three consecutive albums reach diamond status. Impressive, much?

The video to “That Don’t Impress Me Much”, which saw a leopard print-clad Twain writhing around in the desert telling us she didn’t rate Brad Pitt. It was also her highest-ranking UK single.

David Gandy

The handsome man in the M&S ads was – and arguably still is – the biggest male model in the game. He started his career in the fashion pages and posters of the noughties, and hasn’t stopped working since. Frankly, it’s not hard to see what Rob and Romesh see in him…

The boy from Billericay done good is much more than just a pretty face, though. Since graduating to the upper echelons of the fashion world, Gandy has embarked on varied work as a fashion and motoring journalist, British fashion ambassador and charity activist.

Most memorable moment of their career

The shoot that saw him rise to supermodel status: Gandy wrapped up tight in some tiny white trunks while bobbing around in a small boat. As the face (and extremely well-toned torso) of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue in 2006, he changed the shape of the male modelling industry forever.
