The best bits of Gogglebox

The best bits of Gogglebox

It’s been ten whole years of laughs with the nation’s favourite armchair critics. Join us as we round-up Gogglebox’s most memorable moments…

By Charlotte Briggs, Staff Writer

Back in 2013 it would’ve been hard to predict the success of a show about people watching telly in their living rooms. But the brainchild of producer Stephen Lambert (Wife Swap, Undercover BossSecret Millionaire) has enjoyed astronomical results in terms of ratings from the word go.

Now ten years, 21 series, 15 awards, three spin-offs, seven international versions and a whole lot of belly laughs later, it’s safe to say that Gogglebox is a show for the entertainment history books.

Come rain or shine the stars of Gogglebox have kept the nation smiling with their laugh-out-loud humour, family dynamics and relatable reactions. They often say what we’re all thinking when it comes to breaking news, the latest gripping drama series or even the revelation of H in Line Of Duty (more on that later).

The 90-minute Gogglebox: 10 Year Anniversary Special is set to air on Saturday 11 March at 9pm on Chanel 4 HD (CH 104/108). Viewers can look forward to the return of some familiar faces including hoteliers Steph and Dom Parker, as well as hilarious besties Sandra Martin and Sandi Bogle.

And to celebrate this enormous milestone, we’re looking back at the show’s funniest moments. Get ready to giggle!

Gogglebox’s best moments

First to be cast in the series were adorable grandparents Leon and June. The love they had for each other was unrivalled, as shown in this saucy message that Leon left on his answering machine...

And their definition of “friends with benefits” had us in stitches...

We were also introduced to long-term commentator Stephen and his ex-husband Chris. Who can forget this incredible one-liner out of the many they delivered?

Also ranking high early on in terms of favourites were national treasures Sid, Umar and Baasit Siddiqui, who are still going strong as series regulars!

The show soon became a prime-time hit, and with scenes like the chippy tea shoe incident, how could it not?

Now we think about it flying shoes seem to be a regular theme on this show...

Along with furry friends that went rogue during filming...

Sandi and Sandra’s electrifying banter is always worth a watch...

While comedy gold duo Jenny and Lee charmed us with their antics...

Including the infamous face mask fail. TBH it does look a bit like sour cream…

The Malone family always had a delicious plate of sweet treats at hand...

And their sofa-dwelling dogs Dave and Joe were never too far away. We can still feel that headbutt…

When the brilliantly eccentric Giles and Mary (aka Nutty) became professional couch potatos, their no-filter commentary made them firm fan favourites...

From reacting to “barely there” shows like Naked Attraction...

And the heart stopping moments in Mare Of Easttown...

To finally uncovering H’s identity in Line Of Duty...

Or sometimes just saying nothing at all…

The cast have always said what the rest of us were thinking...

The Gogglebox crew have been with us through the highs...

As well as the lows...

And we can’t wait to see what the future holds!
