Newsreader and national treasure, Sir Trevor McDonald, has done his fair share of investigating throughout his storied television career. From Mafia bosses to death row inmates to serial killers, he’s interviewed some tough customers. So it’s no wonder he’s opting to take things a bit easier this time round.
No stranger to the country, McDonald returns to India in this new ITV show to get the lay of the land through that most romantic means of transportation – railway travel.

After having his socks blown off by India’s scenery, architecture, vast size and socioeconomic growth in the 80s, the journalist returns to re-examine the nation after decades of economic expansion.
Travelling thousands of miles on the most expensive luxury train on the planet – the famed, nearly mile-long Maharaja Express – Sir Trevor sees the “new” India first hand, and explores the balance of power and wealth onboard the train.
