1. Supplied and supported hardware

  • We’ll support your broadband connection via a USB modem or ADSL router/gateway that we’ve provided.

  • We’ll support the broadband connection via Ethernet cable, built-in wireless, or one of the wireless adapters (USB or Ethernet) that we’ve provided.

  • We’ll ensure that the Virgin Media network provides a high-speed broadband Internet connection in to your home.

Here are more details on what is classed as Virgin Media supplied USB modems, ADSL routers/gateways, and wireless adapters.

Virgin Media supported equipment

USB modem (we no longer supply this)

  • Thomson Speedtouch 330 - Customers using the Speedtouch 330 modem (last provided to National customers in February 2007) can use the original CD provided with the modem to install the modem on a Windows 7 PC. If you are trying to install the modem on a Windows 7 PC and you don’t have the original CD please contact us on 0845 454 22 22. (option 3).

Wireless ADSL Router/Gateway

  • Thomson Speedtouch 716/706/780 (we no longer supply this)
  • Netgear DG834G

Wireless adapter

  • Thomson Speedtouch 121/110 (we no longer supply this)
  • Netgear WG111/WG511

2. Supported operating systems and browsers

We can help you with your broadband connection as long as you are using one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 (please note, we do not currently support XP Service Pack 3).
  • Windows Vista Home or Windows Vista Premium
  • Mac OS 10.1 or later

...and one of the following browsers:

  • Internet Explorer 6 or Internet Explorer 7

3. Supported email options

We can help you get access to your emails as long as you are using one of the following:

  • Outlook Express version 6 or later
  • Windows Mail
  • Mac Mail

If you’re using a different client, try opening its Help function, or contacting the software provider for help.

4. Supported applications and services

We can help you resolve any problems that you may encounter when using any of the following applications and services that we’ve provided:

Virgin Media in-house applications:

  • Virgin Media Webmail
  • Virgin Media email account management and settings
  • Virgin Media personal webspace (connectivity only)
  • Virgin Media newsgroups (connectivity only)
  • Virgin Media Set-up CD
  • Virgin Media security products
  • Virgin Media Broadband Plus

Note: there are a couple of other 3rd Party services that aren’t supported by Virgin Media:

  • Virgin Media web building applications
  • Virgin Media photos

5. Supported security software

We’ll support every aspect of our security software PCguard and PCguard Total, as long as you are running the software on a supported operating system.

Support covers any problems with the following elements of the software:

  • Firewall
  • Anti Virus
  • Anti Spyware
  • Parental Controls
  • Ad blocker / Pop up blocker
  • Privacy Manager
  • Identity theft Protection (Anti-Phishing)
